Elian Gonzalez

A young Cuban boy, named Elian Gonzalez, boarded a small boat with his mother and twelve other passengers. On their journey to America, rough seas occurred and their boat began to sink. Elian was placed on a tube to avoid the sinkage, while his mother and stepfather drowned and many other passengers. I can’t believe a boy of his age had to see such a traumatic thing as that. A couple days later Elian was found floating in the same inner tube he was placed in with dolphins surrounding him protecting the boy from the shark infested waters. He was taken to the hospital and was found to be suffering from dehydration among many other things. The boy is currently in custody of his uncle and it’s reported that he wants to stay in the United States. Fidel Castro and Elian’s father demand that he be brought back to Cuba. I think Elian should stay in the United States because he will have a better life and have freedom by living in this free country. He would also achieve his mother’s will. I think this decision is clearly for the little boys to decide for himself. There are so many more opportunities for him in America. A better education and better living would make for an excellent up bringing and life for him. This is a very important issue in the U.S. right now. There are many different views on where Elian should be and who he should be with. I think he’s such a strong boy for being able to go through all this and still be going strong.
