І. Актуальність теми: Вивчення теми «Nervous System» займає одне з важливих місць серед інших тем навчальної програми. Вивчаючи цю тему, студенти поширюють свої знання про нервову систему, вдосконалюють свої знання з термінології.

3.2. Зміст теми:

The Nervous System is a system which guides and coordinates the activities of different body systems and helps the individual to face the external environment.

Neural mechanism: the sensory component of the system defects the change in the environment, through the agency of the organs. These impulses are relayed to the central nervous system, which, in response to sensory stimuli, generates and sets into motion the motor responses, which help the individual to react to the changing external environment. Partial or total sensory loss or failure of its interpretation in the central nervous system, disrupts the pattern of motor activity.

Division of the nervous system:

— Central nervous system includes the brain and the spinal cord.

— Peripheral nervous system includes the nerves of different types and ganglia.

Components of the nervous system:

— nervous tissue

— supporting connective tissue

— blood vessels and the ordinary connective tissue

— cerebrospinal fluid (in the central nervous system only)

Classification of nerves:

— Motor nerves

— Sensory nerves

— Mixed nerves

Motor nerves transmit the motor impulse from the central nervous system to the skeletal muscles and are responsible for normal structural integrity of the skeletal muscles.

Sensory nerves transmit the impulse from the receptor of different types to the central nervous system.

The nerves tissue, once damaged, doesn't regenerate. The healing occurs by proliferation of the neuralgia tissue (gliosis).
